There are lots of different services and web sites that offer inspirational messages including the occasional one like this that offers daily inspirational text messages.
The idea is simple: every day, you get a new message to inspire you and put you in a positive mindset.
For instance, the Zig Ziglar quote “Remember, you can earn more money, but when time is spent it is gone forever.” Or Lou Holtz’s words “I can’t believe that God put us on this earth to be ordinary.”
Maybe you’ve subscribed to this kind of service in the past by email. If you’re well organized and file every email that comes into your inbox, that’s still a great way to work.
But if you’re like me, your email inbox is constantly brimming over with messages that you’ll get round to reading “one day” but then never actually get round to reading them. It’s information overload.
The N’deavr service gets round this by sending the quotes by text message to your cell phone.
It’s then simple to just read the day’s quote in a few seconds.
At first, I wasn’t sure whether this would be a good idea or an irritation. But over the time I’ve subscribed to the service, I’ve found that the text message is a welcome interruption to my routine. My phone bleeps, telling me I’ve got a new message and I then read it. Most of the time, the quotes seem “spot on” and relevant for how I’m feeling that day – I don’t think this is any form of mind reading on their part, just an indication that there has been a good deal of time and care put into the quotes.
When you first sign up for the service, you’re asked to complete your country code and your mobile phone number. If you’re not sure what your country code is, there’s a selection box where you can just click the correct country.
There’s then the option of a monthly, quarterly or yearly subscription, with the service getting cheaper the longer you decide to subscribe for.
You can select which days you want to receive messages – maybe giving yourself the weekend off – and also the time period you want to receive messages. All times are local to your country, so you won’t run the risk of your phone waking you up in the middle of the night.
You can choose a range of times or a random time to receive your messages. And you can vary this for each day of the week if you want to.
Then it’s just a matter of letting the text messages arrive each day. I’ve often shared the messages with friends as soon as the text arrives. Or you could go a step further and take out a subscription for a friend or work colleague.
I was quite skeptical about the inspirational text SMS service originally. I wasn’t sure whether I’d find the messages intrusive or, if they didn’t intrude into my day, whether the quotes would be worthwhile.
Over the days and weeks I’ve been using the service, I’m very happy to get the texts and I open message near enough immediately after it arrive. I’m sure if these were arriving in my email inbox each day they’d just live in my “to read sometime” pile of emails. Whereas with the daily inspirational text service, they’re actually a useful addition to my daily routine.
